NYC 2WAY Group Delivers The Original Lombardi’s Pizza

NYC 2WAY Lombardi's PizzaNo trip to New York City would be complete without tasting some of the quintessential NYC style pizza. As long as you’re going to munch on this iconic food, definitely do it at Lombardi’s Pizza, the very first pizza joint in the United States. Opened in 1905 by Gennaro Lombardi, the restaurant has been family owned since its inception and is currently operated by its founder’s grandson, Gennaro Lombardi, III. NYC 2WAY will deliver you to this iconic restaurant in true New York City Style.

Bring a group when dining at Lombardi’s, as this spot is unlike most NYC pizza places: They don’t serve slices, and you can only order a whole pie. The Original Pizza has fresh mozzarella and San Marzano tomato sauce atop a perfectly crisp crust. The homemade meatball topping is a best bet, and the roasted red peppers are fire-grilled every day in Lombardi’s coal oven.

The oven itself deserves mention, as it’s the only one of its kind in New York City. Many pizzerias claim that their crust is fantastic because of their wood-fired ovens, but only Lombardi’s operates a coal-fired oven. Safety considerations led NYC to outlaw such ovens decades ago, but Lombardi’s was grandfathered into the municipal statute that did away with coal-fired ovens in public restaurants.

Hours-long waits used to plague customers of the restaurant located at Spring at Mott, near the #6 NYC subway line. Recently, Lombardi’s took over space left vacant next door and doubled the size of the dining area. The new space has a wine cellar feel and can accommodate many more guests.
